PREVENTION
WE WILL NOT STOP UNTIL EVERY PERSON IS REACHED AND EVERY CHILD IS RESCUED
ZOE Japan was established in 2017, as a part of ZOE International which was established in 2002, a non-profit organization that works to end child trafficking in three ways: prevention, rescue, and restoration.
ZOE is a Greek word that means ABUNDANT LIFE!
Our goal is to rescue children from human traffickers and provide them with opportunities and support for a new path and future.
Founded on Christian values, we strive to demonstrate the love of Jesus through all our activities and outreach events. Our hope is that every person in Japan will be reached with the gospel of Jesus Christ and that we can truly be a voice for the voiceless.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
Proverbs 31:8-9 (NIV)
WHAT WE DO
VICTIM CONSULTATION/SUPPORT
We provide free consultations for children and teenagers under 18 through our online consultation form, our newly established call center or through the LINE messaging app.
If a child is at risk, we share valuable resources and information to educate the child and prevent sexual or labor exploitation.
If the child has already been exploited, we act as facilitator to connect the child with a social worker in a Child Consultation Center, arrange legal and medical support, and support in discussions with the authorities and various stakeholders. We aim to be the child's trusted partner to support him/her throughout the rescue and restoration process.
Awareness and education are crucial elements of our prevention strategy. All of our resources are developed in both Japanese and English and available for free from our website. Resources include:
-
Posters and flyers for parents, teachers and teenagers that can be downloaded, printed or re-posted on social media.
-
Podcasts in Japanese and English.
-
Prevention education material for hotel staff
-
Educational videos – see our YouTube channel.
-
Content produced in collaboration with local artists.
-
Online and in-person presentations, panel interviews and seminars.
AWARENESS & EDUCATION
Through our outreach program, we provide care packages and build relationships with vulnerable youth that are at high risk or already victims of commercial sexual exploitation.
Campaigns such as our annual Rescue Walk provides a great opportunity for the public to join the fight and raise awareness in their own communities.
OUTREACH
Human trafficking was declared illegal in Japan in 2005, and although the government is actively taking steps to arrest and convict perpetrators, there is still a long journey ahead. As a member of the Japan Network Against Trafficking In Persons (JNATIP), we are able to partner with other anti-trafficking NGOs to advocate for policy reforms. Once a year, JNATIP members (including ZOE) have the opportunity to meet directly with various government officials to prioritize areas that require attention and make proposals and suggestions on how we can improve our collaboration.
ADVOCACY
SHARING THE LOVE OF CHRIST
ZOE Japan shares the love of Christ and brings hope to the nation of Japan through thegoodnews.jp, a platform where we publish testimony films of Japanese Christians, sharing their messages of hope and salvation found in Jesus.
J.O.Y. Club (Jesus Others You) is the English teaching ministry of Evergreen Chapel, supported by ZOE Japan. Through English classes, J.O.Y. Club instill a love of English in young children, and also introduce them to Jesus through short Bible time sessions.
